Marriott Bonvoy Review 2026: Travelers planning longer award stays who want a fifth night free without needing elite status.

Our verdict
Marriott Bonvoy ranks second. Its terms give every member the Stay for 5, Pay for 4 offer on five consecutive Standard or PointSavers award nights booked on one reservation, and list earning at 10 base Points per dollar at most brands, 5 at brands such as Residence Inn and Element, and 4 at StudioRes (as of 2026-10-02). Points stay active with any earning, redemption or purchase every 24 months. The trade-offs: Free Night Award certificates are excluded from Stay for 5, Pay for 4 and limited to standard rooms; resort charges earn nothing; and the terms document is very long. Terms change; check Marriott's current terms. We did not stay at Marriott hotels; this reads the published terms.

Frequently asked questions
Do Marriott Bonvoy points expire?
Yes, if your account is inactive for 24 consecutive months, all points are forfeited. Earning, redeeming or buying points at least once every 24 months keeps the account active.
Does Marriott give a fifth night free on award stays?
Yes. The terms say a member who redeems points for five consecutive nights on one reservation, using a Standard Redemption or PointSavers award, pays points for four nights. The free night is the one with the lowest points price. Free Night Award certificates do not qualify.
Do resort fees earn Marriott points?
No. The terms list mandatory or automatic charges such as resort charges, along with taxes and late cancellation or no-show fees, among charges that do not earn points.
