Our verdict
World of Hyatt ranks first on published terms. Its terms (effective August 24, 2026) set Discoverist at 10 nights, Explorist at 30 and Globalist at 60, or Base Point equivalents, and status lasts through February of the second year after qualifying (as of 2026-10-02). Points survive as long as there is activity once every 24 months, and holding a Hyatt co-branded card counts. The honest trade-offs: a cancelled or no-show award does not reset the inactivity clock, the American Airlines partnership ends on November 15, 2026, and its 5 points per dollar earn rate cannot be compared directly with the 10 per dollar quoted by rivals. Programme terms change; read Hyatt's current terms before relying on them. We did not stay at Hyatt hotels; this reads the published terms.

What the evidence says
- Accounts inactive for 24 consecutive months forfeit all points; a cancelled or no-show award reservation does not count as a redemption for activity purposes; holding a Hyatt co-branded credit card counts as activity. (World of Hyatt Terms & Conditions (official))
- Discoverist: 10 tier-qualifying nights or 25,000 Base Points; Explorist: 30 nights or 50,000; Globalist: 60 nights or 100,000; members earn 5 Base Points per eligible dollar (2.5 at Hyatt Studios) (as of 2026-10-02). (World of Hyatt Terms & Conditions, Appendices A and C (official))
- Hyatt and American Airlines will end their enhanced relationship on November 15, 2026. (World of Hyatt Terms & Conditions, update of September 9, 2026 (official))
Pros & cons
Pros
- The lowest published bar to entry-level status: Discoverist at 10 tier-qualifying nights or 25,000 Base Points in a calendar year, Explorist at 30 nights or 50,000, Globalist at 60 nights or 100,000 (as of 2026-10-02)
- Status earned in one year lasts through February of the second year after you qualify, so a qualifying year covers more than 12 months
- Many ways to keep points alive for 24 months, including earning, redeeming, gifting an award, converting to partner points, or simply holding a Hyatt co-branded credit card
- Resort and destination fees count as Eligible Incidental Charges, so they earn points when charged to the room
Cons & red flags
- A cancelled or no-show award stay does not count as activity, so it will not stop the 24-month inactivity clock
- The American Airlines partnership ends on November 15, 2026; no AAdvantage options will be offered for Milestone Rewards earned in 2027
- Earning is quoted as 5 Base Points per dollar, against 10 at Marriott, Hilton and IHG. Point values differ between programmes, so the raw number is not a like-for-like comparison, but it does mean award prices must be compared in each programme's own chart
How it compares

Frequently asked questions
Do World of Hyatt points expire?
Points are forfeited if your account has no activity for 24 consecutive months. Activity includes earning, redeeming and completing an award stay, gifting an award, converting points, buying points, or holding a Hyatt co-branded credit card. A cancelled or no-show award does not count.
How many nights do I need for Hyatt status?
Per the terms, 10 tier-qualifying nights for Discoverist, 30 for Explorist and 60 for Globalist in a calendar year, or 25,000, 50,000 and 100,000 Base Points (as of 2026-10-02).
Is the Hyatt and American Airlines partnership ending?
Yes. Hyatt's terms say the enhanced relationship ends on November 15, 2026. Members who have not linked accounts by then cannot choose AAdvantage awards as Milestone Rewards, and none will be offered for milestones earned in 2027.
